Opinion: Top 18 sneakers of 2018

What a year for heat! Here are the top 18 sneakers of 2018. However, It would be unforgivable to not acknowledge these three that didn’t make the cut. Honorable Mentions include: Jordan I Court Purple/Pine Green, Lebron x John Elliot Icon and Jordan I Royals.

18. Yeezy Boost 700 Mauve

It is called ‘mauve’, but in hand the vast, vast majority of this shoe is variations of gray and chocolate colors. Very premium suede that is “longer” hair suede than what’s on the toe-box of the WaveRunner 700’s. Many people are calling the 700 Yeezy’s best shoe model Adidas has put out. Plus, with a full Boost midsole it has the same comfort as an Ultraboost. Retail $300

17. Black Cement Jordan III

The Air Jordan 3 OG Retro Black Cement will come in remastered fashion. It consists of a Black leather upper offset by the Elephant print on the heel and toe mudguards, the Fire Red on the Jumpman on the tongue, lining, parts of the outsole and eyelets, the Cement Grey on the tongue, ankle collar and eyestay, the White and Black midsole and of course, the Nike Air branding on the heel in White. 16. Jordan 11 Retro Concord

The Air Jordan 11 Concord last dropped in 2011, and the popular silhouette is making another comeback for the holidays this year, in its OG 1995 version.

What many consider the grail of grails, this rendition of the Air Jordan 11 will come with the very same high-cut patent leather overlay found in the OG version from ’95.  Other details include the white mesh upper with smooth leather detailing, and dark concord accents throughout. Other finishes will be the Jumpman branding and number 45 located on the heels, while it’s completed with an icy translucent outsole. Retail $220

15. Air Jordan I Spider-Man “Into the Spider-Verse”

Inspired by the movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, Jordan I gets a spidey suit. According to Ray Polanco, “I’d like to introduce the Air Jordan I “Origin Story” as seen on Miles Morales in Spiderman “Into the Spiderverse.” My only disappointment is general release didn’t come with the custom shoebox. 14. Maya Moore and Aleali May Jordan Court Lux

Stylist, Aleali May and WNBA star Maya Moore, the “Court Lux” capsule collection is bold and unforgettable. The pairs are both made of premium suede in colors representing Moore’s career and May’s childhood fashion and music inspirations, including Bordeaux, light armory blue, concord, and rush red.” [Nike] Retail $160, $190 (Jordan 10)

13. Air Max I Parra

Dutch artist, Piet Parra and Nike collaborate for a multi color sportswear sneaker. “In some weird way, I feel freer now than earlier in my career,” said Parra. Piet is the creative mind behind some of the most iconic Air Max 1 designs during the silhouette’s heyday in the mid-to-late ’00s. Fast-forward eight years and we were gifted a brand new Parra x Nike design. Retail $150

12. Travis Scott x Jordan IV Houston Oilers

Travis Scott x Air Jordan 4 Cactus Jack which features a bright blue suede/nubuck upper with black and red accents. The usual Jumpman branding on the heel has also been replaced with Cactus Jack branding, Travis Scott’s label. Retail $220

11. Jordan I x Nigel Sylvester

The Air Jordan I Hi OG NRG colorway takes inspiration from professional BMX rider and Nike, Inc. family member, Nigel Sylvester. Serving as his go-to riding shoe, Nigel’s AJ1s are often seen with heavy distress marks created during the trial and error part of mastering tricks. [Nike] Retail $180

10. Union Los Angeles Air Jordan I

This Union x Air Jordan 1 combines elements of previous OG Air Jordan 1 releases like the “Black Toe” and White/Grey colorways. It comes with a vintage-styled build – similar to the Off-White Jordan 1, Union LA labels underneath the Wings logo, two-tone laces and branded insoles. Retail $190

9. Air Jordan III Justin Timberlake “Super Bowl”

The first installment of the JTH Collection comes in the beloved “White Cement” colorway of Tinker Hatfield’s Air Jordan 3 NRG. The shoes feature a number of modifications, most notably, the reflective Nike swoosh across the upper, in addition to the “SBLII” text stitched on the medial side, and Tinker’s unmistakable signature on the inside of the tongue. Nike released “The Queen” Collection designed by Virgil Abloh for the 23-time champion Serena Williams. Retail $130

Jerry Lorenzo drooped the basketball-style sneaker comes with a high-top construction complete with ballistic nylon and suede panels.

Other details of the Nike Fear of God 1 include a unique rope lacing system, a tonal cage overlay and zip closure. This upper sits atop a thick sole unit with a rectangular air unit window. Retail $350

4. Off White Air Force I

Both Nike Air Force 1s come in Off-White’s signature deconstructed build with stitched Nike Swoosh logos, Off-White branding printed onto the medial side and Orange tags. Finishing off the design are “AIR” text on the midsole with suede overlays on the eyelets and heels. Retail $170

2. Off White Jordan I White University Blue

The OFF WHITE Air Jordan 1 is a special edition collaboration between designer Virgil Abloh’s Italian fashion label OFF WHITE and Jordan Brand. A trip down memory lane with the UNC inspired first model of Jordan sneakers. Retail $190

1. Sean Wotherspoon x Air Max 97

Round 2 crooner to sneaker designer. Sean Wotherspoon hits the mark with these AM 97’s. Its rainbow-esque upper provides a playful approach towards the design, while the Air Max 1 midsole — attached to the Air Max 97 body. Retail $160
